Vintage Design: Introduction (Pt. 2)

We concluded part one with a call to action while also addressing the most common home design concepts infiltrating suburban developments that claim to be affordable. Furthermore, we have mentioned the affordable housing shortage that is affecting every aspect of life across the nation. In April 2024, All Things Considered (NPR) hosted a conversation that directly relates to the challenges faced by first-time homebuyers (Kelly et al., 2024). Vintage Design aims to fill that gap by providing affordable homes and home design to first-time homebuyers and those who may be tired of spending thousands a month on rent. We achieve this by revisiting the concept of the starter home.
We must first define the concept of a starter home to better understand it. Dictionary.com defines such a house as "a compact flat or house marketed by price and size specifications to suit the requirements of first-time home buyers". The starter home is what most communities are lacking today. A home does not have to be 1,800 square feet or more to be functional for a family just starting out
. Reducing the size of the house, using poured concrete slabs, and using the latest available technologies can help reduce costs.
The concept of affordability can vary from person to person. However, Vintage Design generally considers a home affordable if priced under $150,000. A starter home should not only be functional but also unique; it doesn't have to look like every other house. It should incorporate historical and architectural elements that define its style and reflect the client's individual preferences.
Sincerely,
Jonathan | Lead Partner | Vintage Design
